Programmets vindusprosedyre behandler meldinger som er involvert i å bruke menyelementer som eier-tegnet. Programmet bruker WM_CREATE meldingen for å gjøre følgende:
Tekststrenger og skrift håndtakene er lagret i en rekke programdefinert MITTELEMENT strukturer. Programdefinert GetAFont funksjonen oppretter en skrift som tilsvarer attributtet gitt skrifttype og returnerer håndtaket til skriften. Håndtakene er ødelagt under behandlingen av meldingen WM_DESTROY.
Under behandlingen av meldingen WM_MEASUREITEM , eksemplet blir bredden og høyden på et menyelement streng, og kopierer disse verdiene i MEASUREITEMSTRUCT -strukturen. Systemet bruker verdiene for bredde og høyde til å beregne størrelsen på menyen.
